New York Predator News
Predators lose in the final minutes get bumped off by Bucs Newark, NJ; The NY Predators suffered a heartbreaker in the final minute on Saturday night falling to the Bucs 13 - 9. The game started off great for the defense as the Preds caused the first turnover and gave the offense excellent field position. The offense advanced to the Buc 10 yard line but instead putting points on the board the Bucs Eric Childs blocked a field goal attempt and returned it for the 75 yard score putting the Bucs up by 7.
In the second quarter the Preds hit pay dirt and knotted it up the game thanks to a 20 yard TD pass from QB Lou Scala to WR Harrison Tindall. The Preds took the lead in the second quarter after a muffed punt and an alert play of the Bucs punter to kick the ball out of bounds saving a TD but giving up a safety. The rest of the game was a defensive battle which was seemingly going the Preds way throughout the game. The defense caused several turnovers and limited the Bucs in both its passing and rushing. "We shut down their run and gave them a few passing first downs here and there but pretty much controlled the line of scrimmage" said Defensive Coach Vinny Pucciarelli.
While the defense was stellar the offense continued to look out of sync. "We just missed a lot of opportunities and could not capitalize on the good field position we kept getting during the game. The offense was just a bit off all game." commented team president Bill Simo the game took a bad turn for the preds with just over two minutes left in the game. The center to QB exchange was mishandeled giving the Bucs new life. The Bucs quickly marched down the field to the Preds 40 where the QB threw to a wide open WR Eric Childs who caught the ball and raced into the endzone for the lead. "We made a mistake in our coverage scheme and it cost us" said Pucciarelli. The Predators received the ball but the drive stalled at the Buc 44. "We committed three major mistakes and it cost us but I'm still proud of the way we played!" added Simo
Game Notes; The Predators played the game without several of it's all stars Saturday night as team captain Craig McCaig could not make the game due to a previous engagement, Chi Chi Mansaray who broke his fibula against the Mariners tried to go but was not cleared to play and Kareen Moon dislocated elbow against the Monarchs did not play as well. Moon and Mansaray were the two offensive TD leaders on the offense. The Preds defense tried to carry the offense over the past few weeks causing turnover after turnover while giving the offense great field position. The defense also held every opponent it faced except for the Bounty Hunters to less than 100 yards rushing including its last 8 to under 50 for the game. The Preds offense and special teams by way of blocked kicks gave up 5TD's. The Preds took several severe injuries this season, the most since 2004 when it lost 2/3 of its squad to injuries

Predators advance, defeat LI Panthers 16 - 12 Long Island, NY; The New York Predator defeated the gritty Long Island Panthers in the first found of the playoffs Saturday night 16 - 12 to advance to the second round of the playoffs. The Predators toughed this one out thanks to an excellent ground game of 200 plus yards and hard nosed defensive scheme which caused 5 Int's. Tim Kelson 1Td, Daquan Williams, and Andrew Golden 1Td along with Geoff Wolynic's 42 yard TD did the damage on the offense. While on the defensive front Anthony Polizzi, David Palmer, Damian McCaig, Constance Richardson helped stuff the potent run game of the Panthers. Antoine Earle picked up 3Int's.
Predators limp into playoffs losing 16 - 6 Prince William, Virginia; The Predators walked into VA with hopes of continuing their win streak but left feeling like they went into a wood chipper. The Monarchs defense just attacked and attacked all day and the Pred offense had no answer for them. The game started out with the Monarchs throwing an Int on their own 12 yard line but after two unsuccessful run attempts the Preds threw a 100 yard interception for a TD.
The Preds did have a few successful drives but many of them ended up in missed opportunities. "Offensively we just looked lost out there, it seemed like we were a Pee Wee team learning how to play football" said President Bill Simo. While the offense was busy flopping around like dead fish outside a pond the Defense continued its strong play by limiting the Monarchs offense to 3 first downs. "The offense and special teams gave up all the points" Said Simo "Blocked punt, sack for a safety and an Int TD, you can't expect to play like that and win games! If the team does not wake up we are going to be making an early exit from the playoffs!" he added
Game Notes; The defense played well again grabbing two more Int's as well as 3 fumble recoveries. Walter Carter had a breakout game as the rookie receiver caught 7 passes and a TD.
Predators take down Mariners from ranks of unbeaten 35 - 13, take division title
Brooklyn, NY; The New York Predators gained a measure of revenge on Saturday by defeating the previously unbeaten Brooklyn Mariners at their home field in Kingsbay Brooklyn, 35 - 13. Last season the stakes were a bit higher as it was the Mariners who knocked off the undefeated Predators in the conference title game. "That game was on our minds for the whole year" said Head Coach Matt Aiello "It wasn't just because of the loss it was the way we lost, it was just not an accurate representation of our organization" he added This game however was a complete turnaround from the previous meeting as the Preds took care of business from the opening whistle.
The Predators defense made the first big play of the game as pressure on the Mariner QB led to an Int by LB Glen Roy Watkins. The Predators quickly marched down the field and scored in the air as QB Lou Scala hit WR Harrison Tindall for the TD. Unfortunately on the drive starting RB Chi Chi Mansaray was lost for the game with a broken fibula.
The Mariners got a great return giving them excellent field position inside Predator territory. The Mariners quickly marched down to the Pred goal line setting up 1st and goal but a great goal line stand by the defense stopped all the Mariner momentum. The Pred offense moved the ball out the end zone but threw an interception giving the Mariners great field position yet again. The Pred defense came up big again as Charlie Pellegrino and Simahee Reese sacked the Mariner QB pushing them back into Mariners side of the field. This led to a punt and "The Big Nose Kate's play of the game" WR Kareen Moon received the punt on the Predator 12 then dodged, jumped, skipped and sprinted his way into the end zone for the 88TD.
On the next possession the Predator defense did slow down as Antony Polizzi (3 Sacks) bagged the Mariner QB yet again and SS Jamal Payne picked off an errant pass. The Preds offense struck quickly with the tandem of Scala to Tindall working again to put the Preds up by a dominating 21 - 0 score. The Mariners got on the board late in the half to make the score 21 – 7, Predators.
In the third quarter the Preds offense put a nice 7 play drive together and scored on a 29TD pass from Scala to Moon putting the Preds up by a commanding lead of 28 – 7. The never say die Mariners were able to get back on the scoreboard early in the forth quarter with a 30 yard TD run to make the score 28 – 13. Still in the forth the Mariners were in their hurry-up style offense throwing and completing passes until DB Shameek Champagne Intercepted one of the passes to give the Preds possession inside Mariner territory. RB Daquan Williams sealed the game rumbling down the field breaking several tackles along the way for a 30 yard scoring TD. The Preds didn't look back and closed out the game with a 35 - 13 victory.
Game Notes; The Predator defense all played solidly and contributed to the win with outstanding play from Anthony Pollizi, Damian McCaig, Charlie Pellegrino, Constance Richardson, Mike Dudley and Jamal Payne. During the Game Mike Dudley picked up an Int too giving the Preds 4 in the game and 23 on the season. The Predators have 40 sacks on the season. Kudos to the Predators offensive line which went up against one of the leagues best defensive fronts including the league leader in sacks but did not allow a sack in the game. The Preds took three injuries for the game which are all day to day. The Preds next machtup will be the makeup game against the Prince William Monarchs on Oct 3rd in Virginia.
Predators Blank Bounty Hunters 17 - 0
Staten Island, NY The Predators moved closer to clinching the division title yesterday by defeating its Jersey City neighbor 17 - 0. The game didn’t start out prefect for the Preds after Bounty Hunters RB ran 60 yards to the Preds 3 yard line but the defense closed the door with a goal line stand. From that point forward the defense didn't give up another first down the entire game.
Field goal kicker Geoff Wolyliec put the Preds up early with a 25 yard field goal. The Predators scored later on in the second quarter by way of pass from QB Lou Scala to WR Walter Carter for the 30 yard TD. The Preds last score came on a dazzling 68 yard Punt return by Kareen Moon.
The Defense forced 5 Int's, 2 by Jamal Payne, Shameek Champagne, Keith Assante and Luis Valmon also had Int's. Defensivly the Predators Line and LB's all played well and ended the day with four sacks and several pressures.
Notes; Next up for the Predators are the undefeated Brooklyn Mariners at Brooklyn, Kingsbay field 4:30pm. The Predators were 1 and 1 against the Mariners last season but the Mariners had the last laugh as the ended the Preds undefeated season in the conference championship game.
Predators Tame Bulldawgs win 17 - 6
Staten Island, NY The Predators battled through a tough defensive game and came out on top of the Brooklyn Bulldawgs 17 – 6 for the second victory against Bulldawgs this season. The Preds scored early in the first quarter putting together a 10 play drive with the end result being a 1 yard TD run by RB Chi Chi Mansaray. In the second quarter Kareen Moon stretched out the lead to 14 by scoring on a 60 yard screen pass thrown by QB Chris App. Late in the second when the Bulldawgs got back into the game capitalizing on a defensive pass deflection gone wrong when Bulldawg receiver alertly caught the deflection off the Pred defensive back making the score 14 - 6 at the half.
The second half started off much like most of the first half as the Pred defensive unit put the clamps down on the Bulldawgs. Defensive star Damian McCaig ended up the day with four sacks along with Palmer Reale, Shariff Wiltshire and Simahee Reese who each recorded a sack in the game. Fellow defensive end Mike Pielech and the rest of LB's core kept the scrambling QB at bay most of the game limiting him to 25 yards on the ground. The Predators added a late field goal to cap off the scoring near the end of the 4th quarter at 17 - 6. "I think the key was to stop the QB from rolling then scrambling around to try and make something happen. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot at the end of the half and after a few adjustments were able to contain the QB" Said Defensive Coach Vinny Pucciarelli "This was a solid team that made a lot of progress since the last time we saw them, they are going to surprise a few teams during the remainder of the season" Said Head Coach Matt Aiello. "Overall I think we played a solid game and that's what we have to do every game from here on out." He added.
Notes; The Predators travel to VA Friday for a night game against the Prince William Monarchs. The last time these two teams met was 2007 when the Monarchs defeated the Predators twice in two championship games.
Preds ground Seahawks
Staten Island, NY; The NY Predators took apart the LI Seahawks the Saturday night by a score of 51 - 8 at Monsignor Farrell H.S. The Preds started off with great field position their first two possessions but only managed a field goal. From that point forward it the entire team played lights out football. Seven defensive Interceptions Shameek Champagne 2, Harrison Tindall 2, Keith Assante 1, Kareen Moon 1, and Antoine Earle 1 the Preds were able to capitalize and score with 6 rushing TD's 3 by Chi Chi Mansaray, 2 by Tim Kelson and 1 by Daquan Williams. Kareen Moon scored on a pass from Chris App for the lone score in the air. "Pressure from the front 8 caused most of those turnovers, they did a great job of getting at the QB" said DC Vinny Pucciarelli The entire offense line along with the rest of the offense.
Notes; The Predators never defeated the Seahawks before Saturday night. The last time the two teams met was in 2002 when the Predators were a much different team. This week the Predators take on the much improved division opponent the Brooklyn Bulldawgs as they look to avenge an earlier season loss. While they may be 2 and 4 they have defeated the Blue Devils and just defeated another winning ballclub in the LI Demon Knights by a score of 46 - 6. Game will be at Monsignor Farrell 7:30pm.
Moon to much for Blue Devils Brooklyn, NY. WR Kareen Moon was the story as the Predators topped the Blue Devils 28 - 6 giving the Preds first place in the division. Looking to avenge an earlier loss this season at the hands of the Devils the Predators swung and connected first on the kick return with Kareen Moon taking the ball and running 73 yards for the early 7 - 0 lead. The Blue Devils bounced right back with a score of their own using a nice 8 play drive and a counter run to get them into to end zone to make the score 7 - 6 Preds. The Preds marched right down the field backed by the slashing running of Chi Chi Mansaray where he ended the drive by plunging into the end zone for a 2 yard score. Defensive adjustments made by the Predator coaching staff stymied the Blue Devil offense for the rest of the half. "They had a couple of drives where they got close but the Defense clamped down" Said Defensive Coordinator Vin Pucciarelli
The score remained the same until Kareen Moon playing defense first snatched an interception on defense then on offense caught a pass from QB Chris App, fell down then got back up and raced to the end zone for the 63 yard score to give the Preds 21 – 6. In the forth the Preds capped off the scoring using a QB sneak to put them in the end zone for the score and lead of 28 - 6. The Preds defense closed out the game after another Int by Moon. The Predator Offensive line continued to plow the way as Mansaray and Tim Kelson each had big yardage on the day. "That's the way we have to move the ball" Said Head Coach Matt Aiello
The Predator defense had an outstanding game, while starting DT and captain Anthony Polizzi was out of today's contest the Preds did see the return of veteran Phil Castelanni. Along with Phil, Constance Richardson, Shariff Wiltshire and Mike Pielech they helped keep the heat on the Blue Devils the whole game. "We had a good rotation today and while we are still not 100% we are getting back to normal on the Defense. The LB's also saw a boost with the return of GlenRoy Watkins. "He is really helps out the defense when he's out there catching the little things us coaches don't see on the field" added Pucciarelli LB's Damian McCaig, Charlie Pellegrinno, Jamal Payne all played a pivotal role in limiting the Blue Devils offensive output for the day.
The Predators next play at home Vs. the LI Seahawks 7:30pm at Monsignor Farrell. The last time these two teams met was in 2002 with the Preds taking the loss

Predators Blow Scoring Opportunities then Blow Lead
Staten Island, NY. The Preds gave another game away Saturday night as they lost the in the final 17 seconds 26 - 21. The game started off with a great return from Meshah Lewis to the Miner 30 yard line but after driving to the 15 the Preds Field Goal attempt was tipped at the line and went wide right. The Miners gave the ball right back to the Preds with the Int by DB Keith Assante. The Preds attempted another field goal but this time it was wide left.
The Predators offense finally got on the scoreboard with a 30 yard field close to the end of the half, putting the Preds up by three with just under a minute left in the half. Before letting the Predators walk in with the half time lead the Miners marched straight down the field and took the lead 6 – 3 to the Locke room. "Lack of concentration" said Defensive Coordinator Vinny Pucciarelli
The Preds bounced back quickly in the 3rd quarter as both defense and offense started to take control of the game. The running game really got going with Daquan Williams, Chi Chi Mansaray and Tim Kelson eating up chunks of yardage. The Preds scored on a fade from QB Chris App to WR Kareen Moon who made the leaping grab for a TD putting the Preds up 10 - 6. The Preds defense came through on the next Miner series with Shameek Champagne Int. Chi Chi Mansaray ran it in for the 5 yard score putting the preds up 18 - 6. The Miners never quit as the chopped away at the score finally taking a 20 - 18 lead with about 8 minutes remaining in the game. The Preds received the ball and drove down to the 15 but and missed another field goal. The Defense withstood another drive by the Miners forcing them to punt giving the offense another chance to score but this time they took advantage. K Geoff Wolyliec nailed the 43 yard field goal with just less than two minutes remaining. Unfortunately it was not enough as the Miners kept it together and put a 6 play drive together passing their way into the lead 26 – 21 ending the game in victory.
The Preds will next face the Brooklyn Blue Devils on Sunday 4pm at Tilden H.S. who earlier in the year dismantled the Predator offense.
Preds and Bounty Hunters rivalry heats up, Preds win another tough battle 16 - 12
Jersey City, NJ. Although the Predators started slowly they ended up playing a strong game getting the 16 to 12 win. The defense came out seemingly confused and gave up a quick score after a pass interference call gave the Bounty Hunters great field position. "I lost sight of the ball picked it up again turned around to make a play and ran into the WR, I cost us but that won't happen again" said SS Keith Assante. The score remained 6 - 0 until the 2nd quarter when kicker Geoff Wolyliec connected on a 35 yard field goal attempt. With the Score now 6-3 the Preds started winning the battle of field position and ultimately forced the Bounty Hunters into mistakes. Backed up in their own end zone when defensive end Mike Pielech rocked the Bounty Hunter QB causing a fumble and fellow DL Palmer Reale scooped it up for the score and the lead. "That was a great play by the defense and our second defensive score in two weeks" said Asst Head Coach and Defensive coach Vinny Pucciarelli
At 10 - 6 Preds QB Chris App marched the Preds down for another quick score as he hooked up with WR Harrison Tindall to give the Predators a comfortable 10 point lead thru most of the game. The Bounty Hunters scored late in the fourth quarter to make the game more interesting but the Pred Defense were able to halt the Bounty Hunters offense when they needed to.
The Defense as a whole played very well with the standout line play by Mike Pielech, Shariff Wiltshire, Anthony Polizzi and Palmer Reale getting most of the dirty work done. LB's Damian McCaig, GlenRoy Watkins and Charlie Pelligrino all had excellent games as they each try to vie for the team lead in tackles. Currently all three lead the team in tackles while Watkins has the only Int. "They are playing very physical ball, we are still having a few breakdowns here and there but these guys are with the system, and I'm very proud of my guys" added Puuciarelli
Next up for the Predators is the tough NEPA Miners from PA. Game time 7:30pm at Monsignor Farrell, Alumni Stadium

Preds cage Dawgs 27 - 8 Brooklyn, NY.The Predators shaked some rust off on Saturday as the defense forced 8 turnovers while the offense only committed one. The game started with Brooklyn Bull Dawgs getting the ball on their own 35 and from there a forced fumble and recovery by LB Mike Huertas put the Preds in great position to take the early lead. The Preds offense however couldn't capitalize as they missed the 27 yard field goal.
The Predators kept up the intensity on the defensive side of the ball when on the next Bulldawg possession GlenRoy Watkins picked off a pass and ran it in for the score. While the score was called back the defense had set the tone for the game. The offense this time capitalized with a 22 Yard run by QB Chris App. Defensively the Preds took it to the Bull Dawgs on their next possession when LB Charlie Pellegrinno had a TRIFECTA as he sacked, forced and recovered the fumble. RB Chi Chi Mansaray promptly took the hand off and scampered 25 yards for the TD putting the preds up by 13.
The Preds coasted pretty much the rest of the way adding a few scores along the way. Field goals of 33 and 47 yards by Geoff Wolyliec and a 6 yard scoring run by QB Anwar Issac put the Preds up by 27. A late score by the Bull Dawgs made the final 27 - 8. "Overall we played much better today" said President Bill Simo "On Defense we really stepped it up and the offense seemed to run a little smoother, while we still left to many points out on the field I think we're headed in the right direction" he added

Preds get smacked back down to reality, Lose 20 - 6 Staten Island, NY. The NY Predators took one on the chin during the regular season for the first time in the RAFL dropping to 0 and 1 and losing 20 - 6. From the get go the Predators could get nothing right as they committed a comedy of errors on the offense side of the ball which kept the Predator Defense on it's heals all night long.
The Preds received the ball and promptly fumbled, giving away good field position to open the game. After a brief stop by the Predator Defense the Preds special teams struck with a muffed punt giving the Blue Devils the ball back inside the Pred the 35. The Devils this time took advantage with a beautifully executed reverse for the score. The Pred offense turned the ball over on four successive drives but the Defense held strong and denied the Blue Devils the end zone even though there backs were against the wall.
Late In the third quarter the Blue Devils went ahead by 12 scoring after another Pred turnover gave them great field position. The Blue Devils were able to cash in with yet another turnover but this time running the ball back 40 yards for the return to take the 18 – 0 lead. . The Preds only score came when QB Chris App hit RB Chi Chi Mansaray with a swing pass.
Next up for the Preds are the Brooklyn Bulldawgs at Brooklyn Tech's field which is not located at the H.S. Saturday at 2pm. $5 admission at the gate
Predator Camp Report
6-30-09 New York, NY; The predators hosted the NY Venom last weekend in a controlled scrimmage where both teams put in some good work on the field. "I wanted to see what the new players could do on defense and I was really impressed with their speed and hustle." Said Defensive Coach Pucciarelli "This is up their with some of the best defenive talent we've ever had on the squad, I really expect us to do big things" he added.
On the injury frontier the Predators again lost Angel Pagan for the season as he tore all of his ligaments in his leg. "It's a shame he was really doing real well this season, we wish the best during his recovery" mentioned Coach Aiello "We've really lost a solid team player in Angel" Added team President Bill Simo Next up for the Predators is another full team practice next week then they Host last years Metro West division winner the Brooklyn Blue Devils.
In other news the Predators named Damian McCaig as a team captain. "Damian leads by example, never misses practice and brings it up a notch during all games, he's the type of person that players will follow onto the field without any hesitation" Commented Simo. The Predators schedule has also changed as the New Jersey Lions have been replaced with the LI Seahawks. "The NY Jaguars had a few issues getting off the ground this season so the league had to adjust the schedule" said Simo
6-1-09 New York, NY The Predators have opened camp now for several weeks and while the expectations run high, question marks are abound before the seasons starts. As the season nears it has become a certain that a few players that the Preds have relied on for the past couple of seasons have retired or taken the year off. Most notiable is the departure of Lou Scala. "Lou was an integral part of the teams success over the past 6 seasons and holds every Predator record for a QB. He was a leader and will be soley missed by the team" Said Team President Bill Simo. While Lou's departure has been known for quite some time others like WR Bruce Dudley, CB Ben Rodriguez, SS Godfrey Zueletta, OG Elijah Tucker and OG Devin Turner were unforseen. "These players were all big parts of the teams success over the past couple of seasons" added Simo "We're really going to miss them but that's the reaility of the game" added Head Coach Matt Aiello "Anytime you lose 4 or 5 starters from an offensive it's get's tuff but we'll adjust and make it work" he added
While there has been some departures there have also been a few returns. Phil Rossamando, Jerone Antoine and Joe Romero will be back with the team this year to help solidfy a highly touted defensive line. "Along with Polizzi, Wiltshire and Pielich this should really bring back the the health of the defensive unit" Said Simo. While there are many new comers the QB position has been a battle with Moe, Gino Scarano, Chris App and Richie Doyle. WR newcomers Walter Carter, Ryan Sullivan and Steve Messam. Also impressive are offensive lineman Isacc Brockman and Suarez. "We have a few more guys coming back from arena and college this week but overall the quality of players is very good" mentioned Aiello
Coach Pucc will access the defensive newcomers after next Wednesday's practice and both Coach Cardinale's will detail the special teams in two weeks.
